# Section Limits

Every list in the theme stops at a fixed number of items, so no section grows without limit as you publish. This page lists those numbers for each theme, says which of them are theme settings, and names the template file for the rest.

Unless a row says otherwise:

- A list shows the newest items first. When a new post qualifies for a list, the oldest one drops out on its own.
- A number without a setting is fixed in a template file. [Code Injection](/docs/guides/custom-code-injection/) cannot change it, because the posts are selected on the server when the page renders. Change the `limit` value in the file named in the table and upload the theme again, as described in [Editing Theme Code](/docs/guides/advanced-editing-theme-code/).
- `posts_per_page` is the value in `package.json` described in [Ghost Config](/docs/guides/advanced-ghost-config/).
- Settings live in **Settings → Site → Design & branding → Customize → Theme**. The number after a setting name is its default.

### Essence

Essence has one list and no featured section. A featured post gets a "Featured" label on its card and in the post header, and nothing else changes for it.

### Thoughts

Thoughts has no featured section and no related posts section. A featured post gets a flame icon on its card.

### Feed

Feed has no featured section on the homepage. Featured posts appear in a sidebar widget, and a featured post gets a flame icon on its card. The widgets show in the [layout styles](/docs/feed/settings-sitewide/layout-style/) that keep the sidebar widgets visible.

### Moment

Featured posts have their own section only in the Tilt Flow [home layouts](/docs/moment/settings-sitewide/home-layout/). Everywhere else a featured post gets a flame badge on its card.

### OnFlow

OnFlow has no featured section. A featured post gets an icon on its card. The homepage counts are settings, and an empty setting hides its section.
