Base Settings

Every landing section in Scope shares common settings that you can customize using internal tags. This page documents all the base settings that apply to any section type.

Required Tag

Every landing section must have the #landing tag:

Internal TagDescription
#landingRequired - Marks the page as a landing section

Without the #landing tag, your page will not appear on the landing page, even if you add other landing-related tags.

Hide Title

By default, the page title is displayed as the section heading. You can hide it while keeping it accessible to screen readers:

Internal TagDescription
#landing-hide-titleHides the section title visually (still accessible to screen readers)

This is useful when:

  • The section content already includes a heading
  • You want a cleaner visual appearance
  • The section type is self-explanatory

Aspect Ratios

Control the aspect ratio of images or featured media in the section:

Internal TagAspect RatioBest For
#landing-1-11:1 (Square)Profile photos, icons
#landing-3-43:4 (Portrait)Portrait images
#landing-4-34:3 (Landscape)Traditional photos
#landing-3-23:2 (Standard)Photography, general use
#landing-2-32:3 (Tall)Tall portrait images
#landing-16-916:9 (Widescreen)Video thumbnails, banners
#landing-21-921:9 (Ultra-wide)Cinematic banners

Example Usage

To create a section with a widescreen featured image:

  1. Create a new page with your content
  2. Add a featured image
  3. Add these tags: #landing, #landing-16-9
  4. Publish the page

Container Width

Control how wide the section content spans:

Internal TagDescription
#landing-container-smallNarrow container for focused reading
#landing-container-mediumStandard container width
#landing-container-wideWide container for more content
#landing-container-fluidFull-width, edge-to-edge content

When to Use Each Width

  • Small: Text-heavy sections, quotes, testimonials
  • Medium: General content, balanced layouts (default)
  • Wide: Image galleries, feature grids, pricing tables
  • Fluid: Full-bleed images, video backgrounds, brand logos

Section Content

Each section can include:

Title

The page title becomes the section heading. Use the excerpt field for a subtitle or description.

Excerpt

Add a custom excerpt in Page settings to display a description below the title.

Content

The page content is displayed within the section. You can use any Ghost editor blocks:

  • Text and headings
  • Images and galleries
  • Buttons and links
  • HTML cards for custom layouts
  • Embedded content

If you add a featured image, it will be displayed in the section (behavior varies by section type).

Combining Settings

You can combine multiple base settings on a single section:

#landing #landing-hide-title #landing-16-9 #landing-container-wide

This creates a wide section with a hidden title and 16:9 aspect ratio for featured media.

The order of internal tags doesn’t matter. Add them in any order you prefer.

Section ID

Each section automatically gets an ID based on the page slug, formatted as landing-section-{slug}. You can use this to:

  • Create anchor links to specific sections
  • Target sections with custom CSS
  • Track section visibility with analytics
