Custom Homepage Hero Section

Thoughts theme displays a hero section on the homepage with site title, description, and subscription form by default. You can customize the title and description by creating a custom page with the slug home-hero. This allows you to override the default hero content with your own title and excerpt.

How It Works

When you create a page with the slug home-hero, Thoughts theme will automatically use:

• Page title → Hero section title
• Page excerpt → Hero section description

If no home-hero page exists, the theme falls back to your site’s title and description from Ghost settings.

Creating the Hero Page

Follow these steps to customize your homepage hero:

Step 1: Create a New Page

1. Go to Pages in your Ghost admin
2. Click New page
3. Set the page title to your desired hero title (e.g., “Welcome to My Blog”)
4. Add your hero description in the page excerpt

Step 2: Set the Page Slug

1. In the page editor, click the Settings button
2. Change the Page URL to home-hero

Step 3: Publish the Page

1. Click Publish to save your changes
2. Visit your homepage to see the new hero section
